You can make a lasting difference in the lives of older adults in the arrowhead.
Volunteering with Arrowhead Area Agency on Aging is the perfect opportunity to make a difference in the lives of older adults. Volunteers are an essential part of our work, as they reach out to assist individuals, families, and communities. Volunteers typically work in and around their home communities, and we will always work with your schedule.
Local Volunteer Receives Award for Leadership Excellence
Arrowhead Regional Development Commission’s (ARDC’s) area agency on aging Senior LinkAge Line® volunteer, Brenda K. Sullivan, recently was awarded for Excellence in Volunteerism Leadership during COVID-19 from the Minnesota Alliance for Volunteer Advancement (MAVA). The MAVA award recognizes an individual who has shown a commitment to managing and promoting volunteerism during COVID-19.
Brenda serves as a Senior LinkAge Line volunteer and State Health Insurance & Assistance Program (SHIP) counselor in Koochiching County. She directly supported over 300 people with Medicare plan comparisons, enrollments and questions during Medicare’s Open Enrollment Period, 2021 in International Falls and the surrounding communities.”
During the pandemic, Brenda has co-facilitated virtual Medicare fraud awareness presentations. Medicare fraud costs U.S. taxpayers an estimated six billion dollars a year. Brenda helped teach Minnesotans how to recognize Medicare fraud, waste, and abuse, report suspected fraud, and protect themselves and their loved ones.
The Senior LinkAge Line is a free, statewide service of the Minnesota Board on Aging in partnership with Minnesota’s area agencies on aging. The Senior LinkAge Line helps older Minnesotans and caregivers find answers and connect to the services and support they need.
